DHL Brussels Airport

ITB helps reduce DHL's ecological footprint at Brussels Airport

This project was carried out by ITB, a former affiliate of Cegelec, which was rebranded as Cegelec on January 1, 2025.

DHL, the global leader in international courier services, is investing in the construction of a new, state-of-the-art hub at Brussels Airport. This strengthens Brussels’ role within the European and global DHL network. This investment will triple DHL’s capacity in Brussels, from 12,000 to 39,500 shipments per hour, thanks to the modernization of sorting techniques. This ensures that DHL can meet the expected growth in international express shipments in the future.

The hub covers a total area of 36,500 m², consisting of a new sorting center of 31,500 m² and a modern office complex of 5,000 m², including a new international data center. DHL will also reduce its ecological footprint by using improved insulation, a solar panel park, and environmentally friendly lighting.

ITB was responsible for the entire electrical installation of this new hub, installing 5,500 m of LED lines with 1,700 fixtures for interior lighting and 120 DALI LED floodlights for exterior lighting, as well as 6 substations of 1,250 kVA, 2 MC-set HV cabins, 40 distribution boards, 500 workstations, 12 CRAC units, 7,000 m of cable tray, 17 km of fiber, 100 km of S-FTP, 80 data racks, and more.

Through a series of sustainable measures, DHL will be able to reduce its CO₂ emissions by 768 tons per year.
